Why is my Motorcycle Engine Seized? 101

In this section we will briefly cover Engine Siezure and how to determine what caused it.
The symptom you are be dealing with is the engine will not turn over. Whether it be a starter operated mechanizm ,pullrope assembly or a kick start, the [action] is locked up or frozen.
Much of engine siezure is normally caused from a timing chain slipping and allowing a valve to come in contact with the piston.
As the piston is coming up to complete it's stroke, it comes in contact with the opening valve . These two forces are now working against each instead of in unison as it should be when the engine is in proper time.
First thing you should do is locate a manual and get a general idea of the inner workings of your particular engine.
Next begin troubleshooting procedure by removing valve cover and stator cover or clutch cover ,depending on how your motorcycle is designed. Turn the flywheel in a reverse direction with your hand or a wrench on the bolt on the end of the crankshaft and look for some play or slack in the piston stroke assembly. If you notice it free up a little when you move crank reverse, chances are the timing chain and a valve is the cause of your problem.
You can expect to replace at least one valve, the piston and rings, perhaps bore cylinder, and sometimes the camshaft.

Other possible causes of engine seizure are piston and ring gaulding, transmission gear or shifting fork breakage, starter mechanizm failure, and crankshaft bearing seizure among various others.
Be sure to check and make sure oil level is adequate and try shifting gears then rock bike forward and backwards and listen for compression sounds or see if there is countershaft gear movement.
Shift transmission to neutral and see if engine will free up Severe piston siezure will not allow any attempted movent in assemblies.
A frozen kickshaft assembly will not usually affect the engine rotation and manipulation.
